New Home Living Room

We never thought it would be here, but Spring is finally in full bloom and all of us at Schaeffer Family Homes in New Jersey are so excited because of all the fun ways to enjoy the season inside and outside your home! We’re more than ready to hang up our coats and make the most of spring! Here are a few design and decor tips to welcome spring into your home, so you can enjoy the season to the fullest.

  1. Bring plants and flowers into your home. Whether they’re in vases, hanging planters, or sprawled on the mantle, more greenery and color will brighten anyBUDy’s day!
  2. Designate a weekend to some Spring cleaning to bring in the new season and send out those winter woes! Nothing feels more refreshing than an organized home, so grab the vacuum and cleaning supplies and go room by room to tackle the dust and dirt that’s been building up all winter.
  3. Give your closet a makeover by switching into the clothes you’ve been waiting to wear all winter! Likewise, collect all those heavy boots and coats and put them into storage.
  4. Let the light in! Nothing feels more like spring than fresh air and natural light, so part those curtains and open up those large windows! Spring is in the air and you should have it circulating through your house.
  5. Pastels and shades of white are back on trend. Replace your pillows, curtains, and accessories to add pops of spring colors. Fun accent pieces with lots of color and even fun patterns are the perfect way to brighten up any room. With our homes, you definitely have enough room to utilize all of the trending spring colors!
  6. Lemonade, strawberry shortcake, lavender sorbet… the options are endless when it comes to cooking creatively with spring ingredients. Keep your kitchen stocked with fruits and seasonal veggies!
  7. Speaking of lavender, spring scented candles are back in stock and ready to be lit! Filling your home with all the calming and enjoyable scents of the season are the perfect way to wind down after a busy day.
  8. Getting the outside of your home ready for spring is just as important as the inside. Decorate your entryway with blossoming wreaths and potted flowers to properly welcome your guests and create an inviting new look for the season!
  9. But don’t just plant a new bed of flowers – switch out your actual bed as well! Exchange the flannel sheets and heavy comforters for lighter sheets and duvets. It’ll be easy to catch some ZZZ’s in the right linens.

Spring is the perfect time to have fun with your home decor. Use these helpful tips to enjoy all the feelings of the season inside and outside your home!

Building Strong for Generations

The Schaeffer family has been committed to providing quality-built, affordably priced new homes in South Jersey for over 60 years. Starting with Thomas Schaeffer Sr., continuing through Thomas “Tim” Schaeffer Jr., and now guided by Jason Schaeffer, this dedicated clan has made homebuilding a true family affair.

While Tim worked with his father, polishing his craft and building custom homes in southern New Jersey, Tim’s son, Jason, has taken his years of experience and is shifting the company’s focus to “on your lot” building in South Jersey and at the Shore.

Various members of the Schaeffer family are involved with the company – that’s what makes us different! When you build a home with us, you work with everyone in the family (In case you’re wondering, Jason’s sons are already part of the company… he named the newest floor plans after them!).

Letting our family build for your family is a smart decision. We’ll build your home just like we build our own!

Call Schaeffer Family Homes when you’re ready to build the home of your dreams. We’ll build what you want, where you want.

New Year’s Resolution: Cooking healthier in your new Schaeffer home!

Jaxon Kitchen

We’re serious about promoting a healthy, active lifestyle at our Four Seasons in Cumberland community. From pickleball and tennis to weight-training and swimming, we know our 55-plus homeowners are happier and healthier when they are moving. Cooking for yourself is another way to create a healthier lifestyle. You can control the ingredients, portions and preparation methods when you make your meals at home.

Here are 10 ways you can be a healthier and happier cook in your Schaeffer kitchen:

  1. Be mindful. Make conscious food choices. Pay attention to what – and how – you’re eating. Prepare your food. Taste it. Savor it. Enjoy it.

  1. Become an educated eater. Make an effort to learn how to cook and eat healthy. Brush up on healthy foods and recipes. Learn how to plan and create your own healthy meals.

  1. Eat more fruits and veggies.Aim for 4 to 13 servings a day, in a range of colors. Add them to soups, stews, omelets, pasta, rice, sauces, etc.

  1. Eat less meat. And when you do eat meat, make sure it’s lean. Eat small servings, and make sure the majority of your plate is veggies and whole grains.

  1. Keep it simple. Delicious, healthy meals don’t require you to be a world-class chef. Choose good quality ingredients and keep your cooking techniques simple.

  1. Learn various cooking techniques. Experiment with stir-fry. Roast vegetables on a sheet pan. Try packets made from parchment or aluminum foil. Even if you’re having salmon every day, you can prepare it differently each time!

  1. Make it easier whenever you can.Buy bagged and shredded cabbage and carrots, and pre-chopped greens. Use frozen bags of vegetables (peas, corn, pearl onions) in soups and stews. Keep canned beans on hand to throw into dishes.

  1. Make your kitchen fun and functional.Organize your pantry and cabinets so you can find things easily. Keep fresh fruits and veggies on the counter where they’re accessible. Play music when you’re cooking. Clean up when you’re done.

  1. Plan meals ahead of time.Wash, cut and peel fruits and veggies for snacks and meals. Batch cook grains, like rice and quinoa. Portion out snacks like nuts and berries. These shortcuts help make sure you eat healthier.

  1. Focus on flavor. It’s easier to eat healthy if food tastes good. Flavor your foods with fresh herbs, unique spices or even citrus. Add vegetable or chicken stock to grain dishes. Make your own vinaigrettes for salads, grains or veggie dishes.

With tips like these, you’re sure to master healthier living in your home at Four Seasons in Cumberland!

Is Your Holiday Party Plan Ready to Go?

Thanksgiving is over, and the holiday party season is in full force! Before you stress out, here are a few tips for getting ready for the next round of festivities.

What are you hosting next? A cocktail party? A cozy holiday meal for immediate family? An open house for hordes of people? Preparing for each will involve different necessities and organization, so figure that out before anything else.

Take stock of your supplies. Once you know what kind of event you’ll be preparing for, make a list of what you have or have to get. Do you have enough stemware? Do you need more plates/cups? Does the bar need to be replenished? Get decorations and supplies that match your party style or theme. Festive drink garnishes for a fancy cocktail party, fun photo booth props or s’mores bar ingredients for family parties, etc.

Organize and take inventory. As you sort through various platters, bowls, pitchers, vases and other pieces, take note of what is missing or broken. Also, pay attention to pieces lurking in the back of the cabinet. When was the last time you used them? Consider donating anything you haven’t used recently.

Clean everything. Give the kitchen a good scrubbing. Launder tablecloths, napkins and other linens. Better yet, drop them off at the dry cleaner.

Sort out the pantry, fridge & freezer. Clean out the refrigerator and pantry. If you find canned or boxed food that hasn’t expired and won’t be used in the next few weeks, donate it to a food drive or pantry.

Restock. Think about what you’ll be cooking or baking for the holidays. Get your herbs, spices and staples organized, and make a list of things you need to replenish.

Check cookware and kitchen tools. While you’re planning your party menu, figure out what pots, pans and cooking tools you will need. If you need to pick up an extra cookie sheet, put it on the list.

Go shopping. In addition to cookware and kitchen staples, look for basic white dishes, wineglasses and nice flatware.

Prep for overnight guests. Clean up the guest room, wash the bedding and towels.

The next round of holiday festivities will be even better than the last with these helpful tips to prepare! So get your game plan ready, and start enjoying the holidays with your loved ones!

Interested in building on your own lot? Check out Schaeffer Family Homes!

Everyone has a different idea for where they want their dream home to be. For some, living in a new community is the aspiration. But for others, a spot far from town – or a lot right in the middle of town – may be more attractive. The Build On Your Lot program from Schaeffer Family Homes is an exciting alternative to our communities. It offers the option of building a high quality Schaeffer home on a homesite that you may already own or one that we can help you acquire.

If you have a homesite, we can help determine if it is suitable for building. Schaeffer Family Homes provides a homesite inspection for all of our customers. During a due diligence contingency period, we will go out to your homesite and identify which items will need to be addressed in order to build your new home. We will also talk to the local municipalities and zoning offices to find out what permits and tests they require. We recommend that a soil test, seasonal high water table test and topographical grading plan be performed to get things started.

If you don’t own any land, we have relationships with many landowners and can provide you with a list of available homesites. Or we can provide you with names of several real estate professionals that specialize in land acquisition.

When you are ready to build, Schaeffer Family Homes has more than 20 home designs to choose from, priced from the low $100s to the upper $300s and beyond. We offer many home styles, such as ranch style, 1st floor masters and traditional 2-story homes. And there are a variety of structural changes available depending on which floorplan you choose. If you are looking for something unique or custom, please let us know so we can review the customization choices open to you. If you have your own plan, we will be more than happy to review it.

Your final price may vary depending on which of our included feature packages you choose. The starting price for each floorplan is based on the Legacy Features Package. Upgraded selections are part of the Signature Features Package. Upon request, we will provide you with a cost estimate based on the features that you wish to have in your new home. Our goal is to work within your budget and build the home of your dreams!

Our Build On Your Lot program is available in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem Counties in New Jersey. If you are interested, call 856-208-5118 or fill out the request more information form on our website, and we will schedule a free consultation meeting with a New Home Specialist. If you do not own land yet, we recommend speaking with us before you buy your land so that we can assist you.

We look forward to meeting with you to build the home of your dreams on the land that you love!

Sizing Matters: Choosing The Right Size Home for Your Family

Deciding to build a new home is exciting, but it also requires a lot of planning. At Schaeffer Family Homes, we think that choosing the right floor plan is a vital first step. From the size and shape, to where the rooms are located in relation to each other, every part of the home can affect your experience, so knowing what you want is crucial. We have some tips for choosing the right size home for your family.

1. Figure out what size home will best suit your needs.

Choosing a floor plan should start with how large a home you need to fit your lifestyle. How many bedrooms and bathrooms? How many garage bays? Are you downsizing? How much square footage do you really need?

2. Choose a floor plan based on your lifestyle.

Every family has their own style, so choosing a floor plan that meets your needs is essential. Do you work from home and need an office? Are you a movie buff who wants a media room? Do the kids need a rec room? Think about what you need to be comfortable.

3. Trust your instincts on what “feels” right when choosing a floor plan

All of us know when a space feels comfortable. Take these instincts into consideration when looking at different floor plans. A family with younger children may feel that the master suite needs to be closer to the other bedrooms. But an older couple might prefer for the master suite to be downstairs, separate from the other bedrooms.

4. Be honest about your needs and lifestyle.

Lifestyles and family needs differ depending on what stage of life you are in. Features that young couples look for in a home are different from what a single person or a retired couple might find important. Before choosing a home design, ask yourself:

  • Do you plan to start a family? How many children? Is there room in your plan for growth?
  • Will you need guest rooms for overnight visitors?
  • What about additional living space for visiting parents or grandchildren?
  • Are you approaching your retirement years? Would you prefer a plan with single level living?
  • How do you entertain? Do you host formal events or relaxed get-togethers?

5. Don’t forget other space considerations.

Would you prefer the laundry room to be downstairs or upstairs? Do you have hobbies or special interests that require dedicated rooms to enjoy them? Are you a “pack-rat” who needs lots of attic or storage space to store your treasures?

We are proud to offer new homes that have earned the ENERGY STAR® label. ENERGY STAR qualified new homes are substantially more energy-efficient than homes built to the minimum code requirements.
