Is Your Holiday Party Plan Ready to Go?

Thanksgiving is over, and the holiday party season is in full force! Before you stress out, here are a few tips for getting ready for the next round of festivities.

What are you hosting next? A cocktail party? A cozy holiday meal for immediate family? An open house for hordes of people? Preparing for each will involve different necessities and organization, so figure that out before anything else.

Take stock of your supplies. Once you know what kind of event you’ll be preparing for, make a list of what you have or have to get. Do you have enough stemware? Do you need more plates/cups? Does the bar need to be replenished? Get decorations and supplies that match your party style or theme. Festive drink garnishes for a fancy cocktail party, fun photo booth props or s’mores bar ingredients for family parties, etc.

Organize and take inventory. As you sort through various platters, bowls, pitchers, vases and other pieces, take note of what is missing or broken. Also, pay attention to pieces lurking in the back of the cabinet. When was the last time you used them? Consider donating anything you haven’t used recently.

Clean everything. Give the kitchen a good scrubbing. Launder tablecloths, napkins and other linens. Better yet, drop them off at the dry cleaner.

Sort out the pantry, fridge & freezer. Clean out the refrigerator and pantry. If you find canned or boxed food that hasn’t expired and won’t be used in the next few weeks, donate it to a food drive or pantry.

Restock. Think about what you’ll be cooking or baking for the holidays. Get your herbs, spices and staples organized, and make a list of things you need to replenish.

Check cookware and kitchen tools. While you’re planning your party menu, figure out what pots, pans and cooking tools you will need. If you need to pick up an extra cookie sheet, put it on the list.

Go shopping. In addition to cookware and kitchen staples, look for basic white dishes, wineglasses and nice flatware.

Prep for overnight guests. Clean up the guest room, wash the bedding and towels.

If you have a homesite, we can help determine if it is suitable for building. Schaeffer Family Homes provides a homesite inspection for all of our customers. During a due diligence contingency period, we will go out to your homesite and identify which items will need to be addressed in order to build your new home. We will also talk to the local municipalities and zoning offices to find out what permits and tests they require. We recommend that a soil test, seasonal high water table test and topographical grading plan be performed to get things started.

If you don’t own any land, we have relationships with many landowners and can provide you with a list of available homesites. Or we can provide you with names of several real estate professionals that specialize in land acquisition.

When you are ready to build, Schaeffer Family Homes has more than 20 home designs to choose from, priced from the low $100s to the upper $300s and beyond. We offer many home styles, such as ranch style, 1st floor masters and traditional 2-story homes. And there are a variety of structural changes available depending on which floorplan you choose. If you are looking for something unique or custom, please let us know so we can review the customization choices open to you. Sizing Matters: Choosing The Right Size Home for Your Family

Deciding to build a new home is exciting, but it also requires a lot of planning. At Schaeffer Family Homes, we think that choosing the right floor plan is a vital first step. From the size and shape, to where the rooms are located in relation to each other, every part of the home can affect your experience, so knowing what you want is crucial. We have some tips for choosing the right size home for your family.

1. Figure out what size home will best suit your needs.

Choosing a floor plan should start with how large a home you need to fit your lifestyle. How many bedrooms and bathrooms? How many garage bays? Are you downsizing? How much square footage do you really need?

2. Choose a floor plan based on your lifestyle.  

Every family has their own style, so choosing a floor plan that meets your needs is essential. Do you work from home and need an office? Are you a movie buff who wants a media room? Do the kids need a rec room? Think about what you need to be comfortable.

3. Trust your instincts on what “feels” right when choosing a floor plan

We’re so happy to introduce you all to the newest Schaeffer Family Homes team member, Community Manager, Lorraine Marek. She has many years of experience in the real estate industry, and will be handling sales at The Villas at Cornerstone and Four Seasons at Cumberland.

Lorraine was born and raised in Philadelphia, and worked in the custom and fine jewelry businesses in New York City for several years. Then she moved into new home sales, handling everything from sales and marketing to financing and design.

She left real estate for a few years, working as the customer care manager & marketing manager for the Deptford Skating and Fun Center, and International Sports, Skating and Fun Center. Now, she’s come back to New Home Sales because that is where her heart truly is.

When she is not working, Lorraine spends her time with her wonderful husband, Tom, her beautiful daughter, Michaela, and their grand-puppy, Molly.

As of April 1st, 2017, Schaeffer Family Homes will be taking a $4,000 price increase across the board on all our models in our communities, spot lots, and on your own lot. The reason is due to an increase in the cost of lumber. According to Eye on Housing, lumber costs have remained pretty steady since 2014. The price of lumber, from framing to structural panels has increased up to 30 percent in recent weeks.

Since this cost is something we can not avoid, our prices in turn have to go up. We wanted to make our customers aware so they can lock in the lower pricing NOW! How can you do this? Sign an agreement of sale by 4/15/17 and we will honor our lower pricing. This saves you $4,000. We will also take contingencies and lock in the pricing for up to 60 days. Join us at the South Jersey Home Show!

We are very excited to be partaking in the Spring South Jersey Home Show. This will be our fourth year participating and this show is our particular favorite as its local to our main office, design center, and many of the areas we build in. Join us on March 24th, 25th, and March 26th. The show hours are as follows: Friday 11 am to 8 pm, Saturday 10 am to 8 pm, and Sunday 10 am to 6 pm. Admission is free and so is the parking. The show is being held at the Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone located at 601 Laurel Oak Road in Voorhees. Dress warmly! The ice is just underneath the show floor and booths. We don’t have our booth number and location but check back to find out where you can find us! Our sales specialists, Christie and Alexis will working on the booth throughout the weekend.
